The exotic forest you'll see at the beginning of the route, consisting of maritime pines and eucalyptus trees, gives way to dense vegetation that characterizes the Laurisilva forest. Waterfalls and numerous streams add vibrancy to species such as willows, as well as large laurels of Madeira, royal laurels, and lily of the valley trees that line the levada. You'll also find numerous flowering species such as Madeira geraniums, wild chrysanthemums, Madeira orchids, and large-leaved buttercups.
